Balancing functionality, flavor in sports nutrition applications

Tart cherry was named as one of the key botanicals to help active consumers meet their fitness goals in 2020, according to Natural Products Insider.

Foods with high antioxidant content, particularly those high in polyphenols, are in particularly high demand. When an athlete burns calories, free radicals are formed as a byproduct, but antioxidants are the key to preventing these compounds from causing damage. An excess of free radicals has been shown to cause a whole host of problems in the body, but consuming foods high in antioxidants can prevent this damage and promote muscle recovery. Tart cherries, like our Montmorency tart cherries, have been shown to contain high levels of these antioxidants.
