February is a big month for us here at Cherry Central. It is National Snack Food Month AND National Cherry Month!
In 1989, the National Snack Food Association and the National Potato Promotion Board founded National Snack Food Month. The goal was to increase consumption and raise awareness about snacking and the importance of keeping it as healthy as possible.
Snacking often has a bad rap, but when done in moderation, it comes with benefits. Between meals, snacks can help provide energy, fuel mental clarity, manage extreme hunger, prevent binge eating, and cut down on those hard to ignore comfort food cravings.
Do you want to know what makes a dynamic and healthy duo? Snacks and tart cherries.
Nutrition bars, cheese, energy bites, trail mix, jerky, beef bites, and granola are all excellent snack options but, when you add cherries to any of these items, it takes snacking and the health benefits to a whole new level.
Tart cherries come with several health benefits of their own that include aiding sleep, easing arthritis and gout pain, increasing heart health, and speeding up recovery for athletes.
According to Mintel, snacks made with tart cherries experienced the greatest growth of new tart cherry products in the past five years (35%).
So, we encourage you to go out and celebrate this dynamic duo by exciting your taste buds and fueling your fabulous body and mind!
